Note: This position is full-time, temporary, not to exceed June 30, 2027 (may be extended on a year to year basis).
Work Location: The position is located at the Home Maluhia (shelter) located in Honolulu, Oahu.
Notes:- This position requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
- This position requires applicants to work on a rotating shift basis. You must be willing and able to work weekends, nights, holidays, and rotating shifts; and work outside of normally scheduled work hours.
Supervises and participates in the therapeutic counseling and allied rehabilitative services for juveniles requiring temporary shelter in a non-secured facility; supervises and participates in the investigation, evaluation and assessment of juvenile’s problems and recommends, develops and implements appropriate treatment/rehabilitation; authorizes shelter for juveniles; makes referrals to community resources and agencies for services; provides direction to subordinates concerning the handling of cases;
assigns and evaluates work performance of subordinates; and performs other duties as required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in a social science.
Excess work experience as described under Specialized Experience below, or any other responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience which provided knowledge and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge and abilities.
The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
Specialized Experience RequirementTwo and one half (2½) years of progressively responsible professional experience involving counseling to individuals and/or their families which demonstrated the application of the knowledge of the behavioral and social sciences. Examples of qualifying experience are performance of duties such as educational counseling and/or guidance, vocational rehabilitation, psychological or pastoral counseling, probation or parole services counseling.
Supervisory AptitudeFor Level IV, applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments;
or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
- Successful completion of one (1) year of graduate study in an accredited school of social work; or major in counseling, psychology, sociology, criminal justice administration or educational psychology from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one-half (½) year of specialized experience.
