Position Overview:

The job of Math Paraprofessional is done for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through independently implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing direct feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and representing the district as needed in special education meetings, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks:

  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvements and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses and records student achievement for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
  • GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Maintain regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
  • Follow all district policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by proper authority.
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague, or district patron.
  • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. In addition, a paraprofessional may be responsible for supervising and directing other school personnel depending on the assignment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates’ Degree in a subject related to the position or 72 college credits transferable to a four-year college degree program; in lieu of the degree or credit requirement, can provide a passing score on the CBEST or the PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment exam.
  • Prior job-related experience - working with students, school staff, and families.
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods and state curriculum framework.
  • Perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks.
  • Ability to use computer technology - especially Google Suite and Gmail.
  • Ability to maintain records.
