Project Engineer - Roadway

Overview

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Roadway Design Engineer (PE) in our Birmingham, AL or Huntsville, AL office.

• Designs a variety of roadway projects in accordance with ALDOT and/or local municipal guidelines and standards
• Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to resolve a variety of complex problem
• Supervises the work of other engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project
• Prepares and reviews technical reports, drawings, plans, specifications, and permits for projects
• Utilizes engineering software such as Micro Station and InRoads/Open Roads
• Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects
• Conducts project site visits, as needed
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail
• Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills;
  Works independently on multiple tasks without immediate supervision
• Builds and maintains excellent interpersonal relationships
• Demonstrates working knowledge of Alabama Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures
• Understands standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry
• Performs other duties as requested

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited program
• Minimum of 6 years of roadway design experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in AL or an ability to obtain PE in AL within 6 months of start date is required
• Experience using Micro Station V8i or Open Roads is required
• Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines
• Skill using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
• Alabama Department of Transportation project experience is desired
