Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to lead complex engineering projects in mechanical and/or electrical disciplines. This role is responsible for providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring innovative, cost-effective, and compliant solutions across design, development, and implementation phases. The Principal Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert, driving excellence in engineering practices and project execution.
Must be an Alabama resident living within 60 miles of Hoover, AL.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, analysis, and implementation of mechanical and/or electrical systems for large-scale projects
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering teams, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, construction teams, and clients to deliver high-quality solutions
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and system performance evaluations
- Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Drive process improvements, cost optimization, and efficiency in engineering workflows
- Represent the company in client meetings, technical discussions, and industry forums
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior technical role
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
- Proven expertise in mechanical/electrical system design, analysis, and implementation
- Strong knowledge of industry codes (e.g., ASME, IEEE, NEC, NFPA)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, MATLAB, ETAP)
- Must be an Alabama resident living within 60 miles of Hoover, AL
- Experience in utilities, industrial facilities, or infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
