Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support our Revere brand. The candidate will work onsite at our Birmingham, Alabama office location.

Responsibilities
  • Design, manage, test, implement, and complete projects in a timely manner while meeting or exceeding project specifications and budget.
  • Perform engineering calculations for instrumentation specifications, PLC/DCS system capacity requirements, I/O sizing, network capacity, cable sizing, and specifications.
  • Work with Project Management, Sales, Drafting, Documentation, Purchasing, and Production.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients and external parties.
  • Own project performance regarding quality, schedule, and budget; provide technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Validate designs of other engineers; provide technical expertise, advice, and direction for problem solving.

  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
  • Check calculations made by others for accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and engineering practice.
  • Assist designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems; furnish sketches and details necessary for engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders to ensure efficient flow of information.
  • Develop and assemble scopes, drawings, and specifications into procurement packages.
  • Review vendor and discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Review fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data, check ties, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and engineering personnel.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to complex designs.
  • Produce instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, controls narratives, interconnects, interlocks, cause-and-effect descriptions; participate in HAZOP and safety analysis.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies.
  • Develop small work‑sharing packages.
  • On‑site assistance during startup.
  • Design electrical control panels and systems.
  • Coordinate with panel production personnel.
  • Develop procedures and plans for testing control panels.
  • Manage multiple large projects following company procedures and guidelines.
  • Coordinate projects and resources to meet deliverables.
  • Direct and supervise teams.
  • Ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and testing conform to specifications.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of field installations.
  • Technical document writing: testing procedures, training plans, sequence of operations.
  • Lead the technical implementation of projects.
  • Attend training and continuing education.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Ability Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with (8) years related experience (desired); (15) years considered.
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain within 1 year (desired).
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and e‑mail.
  • Experience with design tools including AutoCAD and EPLAN.
  • Specialize in specific industries or technologies.
  • Willigness and ability to learn technical skills.
  • Self‑motivated, proven ability to assume primary responsibility with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the current NEC version.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate instrumentation installation documents.
  • Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.
  • Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation and analyzers.
