Advan Six is seeking a highly motivated, entry-level bench chemist to support its 24/7 unionized laboratory at the caprolactam manufacturing plant in Hopewell, Virginia. The laboratory performs in-process and finished-product testing. This position is one of two analyst roles that support the ammonia and sulfuric acid production units. The chemist will work a rotating two-week schedule:

Key responsibilities

include performing routine instrumental and wet-chemistry analyses to support ammonia and sulfuric acid production and recording the results electronically. The chemist will also prepare and document laboratory solutions, reagents, and quality-control check standards; collect samples as needed; and conduct environmental compliance testing at field locations throughout the plant.

This position is part of the Hopewell Quality Assurance team, which includes four additional chemists and approximately 30 union laboratory technicians. This role may provide opportunities for advancement into other chemist positions within Hopewell or the company’s broader analytical groups and functions.

  • Ability to work independent, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both unionized and non-unionized employees.
  • Availability to work the rotating schedule described above and occasional overtime as required by business needs.
Preferred

  • Coursework or hands-on experience in quantitative chemical analysis, including colorimetric, titrimetric, and gravimetric methods.
  • Coursework or hands-on experience operating spectrophotometers or gas chromatographs.
  • Ability to develop training materials and instruct others.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 or a similar quality management system.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing protocols.
