Job Overview

UK Power Networks Services is looking for a Substation Inspector to join our team based at Gatwick, supporting the safe inspection, maintenance and care of substations across the Services region. This is a permanent site‑based role with no blended working. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the position offers a salary of £38,832 plus a 3% bonus. The closing date for applications is 28/07/2026.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct the full range of tasks associated with substation inspections and vegetation management at voltages up to 33kV, helping to keep critical infrastructure safe, compliant and operational.
  • Perform inspection and non‑intrusive diagnostic testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the HV and LV distribution network.
  • Locate faults and repair minor plant defects, and take oil samples from HV plant for diagnostic testing where required.
  • Use hand‑held IT equipment to capture and manage information.
  • Demonstrate a safety culture that embraces the UKPNS Stay Safe programme and oversee maintenance, project and subcontract staff within your working party.
  • Assist the team with maintenance and project‑based work, and support other sections during organisational changes, system emergencies or other operational needs.
  • Clean substation internals, including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and window cleaning; complete additional site visits to meet ESQC Regulations; carry out HV and LV meter reading.
  • Prune or remove vegetation from external substation compounds by manual, mechanical or chemical control and undertake touch‑up redecoration tasks within substations.
Qualifications and Skills

Experience or willingness to learn substation inspection and maintenance responsibilities, knowledge of safety procedures, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Any company‑specific training required for the role will be provided.
