About the role

Horsham District Council is looking fora Principal Registered Building Inspector to lead on Building Control matters, to deliver a professional Building Control service and provide supervision to assist with the management of the work of others within the Building Control team.

As the Principal Registered Building Inspector, you will have a varied caseload of work requiring the effective application and understanding of the relevant Building Acts and associated legislation.

The role will involve working on a range of building projects, often in a fast-paced environment. Experience of progressing site inspections, dangerous structure investigations, plan checking and Building Regulation enforcement is essential.

With the emphasis on team approach, you will work closely with others within the team, whilst taking a lead role in some of the more complex developments within the area requiring a confident and professional approach. Although enjoying the support from the Head of Service and Building Control Team Leader, the position will provide autonomy to help further improve the service preparing for a successful future.

The role will include providing cover as part of our out of hours response to dangerous structures (currently under review, additional payment made if called out).

Salary breakdown

Essential Car User: up to £1,239 pa

About you

To succeed as an experienced and technically competent Principal Registered Building Inspector, you will have wide ranging experience of plan checking and inspecting varied domestic and commercial schemes – registered as a CLASS 2F.

As a team player, you will be able to demonstrate a problem solving approach to work, with the ability to analyse complex technical information to make informed decisions. You will be an excellent communicator who is also able to supervise and develop others within the Building Control team e.g. trainees, other registered buildings inspectors – as required.

You will have the drive and desire to embrace new ways of working to ensure the Building Control service strives to deliver ongoing service improvements and innovation.

This role involves travelling across the district to various sites and therefore a full and current UK driving licence is essential.
