Job Overview
We have an opportunity for an experienced Stores Supervisor to oversee receiving, storage and distribution operations supporting our Southern Water contract. This role plays an important part in ensuring materials, plant and equipment are managed efficiently, enabling operational teams to deliver works safely and on schedule. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the stores function, ensuring processes operate effectively, productivity targets are achieved, and stock is controlled accurately.
A strong understanding of operational requirements and a proactive approach to organisation and leadership will be key to success in this role.
- Managing stores operations in line with company policies and operational objectives
- Maintaining accurate records of plant hire and equipment movements across the business
- Overseeing goods receipt, storage, distribution and maintenance coordination
- Organising stores layout to maximise efficiency and effective use of space
- Implementing and maintaining operational procedures and continuous improvements
- Ensuring compliance with all handling, storage and transport legislation
- Maintaining high standards of health & safety, hygiene and site security
- Managing stock levels and reconciling physical inventory with system data
- Liaising with clients, suppliers and transport providers to support operational delivery
- Planning team rotas, allocating workloads and monitoring performance outcomes
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, coaching and development of team members
- Producing regular performance reports, including stock movement and ageing stock analysis
- Monitoring service quality and acting on feedback to improve performance
- Experience working with warehouse management systems and databases.
- Solid understanding of performance measures and operational KPIs.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to support, motivate and guide a team while maintaining clear standards and expectations.
- Effective communicator with sound decision-making and problem‑solving abilities, comfortable working in a fast‑paced operational environment.
- Experience operating a forklift or telehandler is required.
- Full UK driving licence.
