The primary purpose of the position is to provide proper care and maintenance of specimen trees and shrubs located within maintained landscapes; and mitigate hazard tree conditions along roadways and trails, and within developed areas such as campgrounds, picnic areas, etc., where the visiting public are invited to come; by performing arboricultural practices and applied arboricultural services.
Duties- Provide proper care and feeding of specimen trees and shrubs within maintained landscapes.
- Mitigate hazard tree conditions along roadways, trails, campgrounds and developed areas.
- Diagnose tree and shrub biotic/abiotic disorders.
- Perform condition assessment of trees and shrubs.
- Ascend/descend trees using climbing gaffs (spikes) to perform arboricultural operations aloft in trees that will be removed from the landscape.
- Operate gasoline and diesel powered tractors 70 H.P.
- Operate 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton pickups, stake trucks, van trucks, platform trucks, bucket truck (aerial lift) and/or dump truck with approximate GVW not more than 32,000 pounds.

Requirements- U.S. citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Direct deposit required; participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Valid driver’s license and required motor vehicle operator records.
- Professional certification in Arboriculture required; provide proof.
- Uniform required; allowance will be provided.
- Minimum age requirements: 18 years old, or at least 16 with high‑school equivalence, or vocational training, or approved school enrollment under a student employment program.
- Government housing not available.
- Ability to work without more than normal supervision.
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Dexterity and safety awareness.
- Knowledge of materials.
- Technical practices proficiency.
- Vehicle operation experience.
- Professional arboriculture certification.
- Driver’s license possession.
Ability to work at heights up to 100 feet. Ability to lift weights up to 75 pounds. Long periods of physical exertion. Prolonged exposure to repetitive motion. Moderate effort for vehicle or tractor operations.
Working ConditionsWork performed outdoors under varying weather conditions, including high heat, humidity, sub‑zero temperatures, extreme environmental conditions, poisonous plants, insects, reptiles, electrical conductors, uneven terrain, pedestrian/vehicular traffic, noise in excess of 85 dB, and protective clothing required for pesticide/herbicide application.
