Seasonal Maintenance Worker at National Park Service
SummaryThe primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.
DutiesAssist in carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and masonry. Lead a crew of laborers in construction, repair and upkeep of government facilities, buildings, boundary fences, roads, culverts, corrals and trails. Duties include window repair, door repair, patching walls and ceilings, roof repair, fixture replacement, plumbing repair, floor installation, siding repairs, interior and exterior preparation, painting, insulating and general home maintenance. Operate and maintain equipment such as tractors, skid steers, backhoes, pickups, air compressors, pneumatic hammers and pressure washers.
Dig holes, mix and pour concrete, install drainage pipe, clean culverts and auto gates. Handle heavy physical effort and work in temperatures up to 100°F/–10°F.

Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

- Uniform: required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- Minimum Age Requirement:
Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;
or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. - Government Housing: housing may be available. Please contact the park.

Experience that demonstrates the ability to independently perform the full range of Maintenance Worker tasks without more than normal supervision in at least two of the trades [Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Roofing, Electrical, Cement Finishing, Masonry, Wastewater Plant Operator, and/or Water Plant Operator]. Troubleshoot and take initiative to solve problems in accomplishing work assignments.
Driver's LicenseYou will be required to operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required. Submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record. Provide certified driving records from all states that disclose all valid driver’s licenses.

EducationThere is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Non-Competitive Rehire EligibilityTemporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service.
Physical DemandsPhysical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury.
Working ConditionsExposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures –40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc.
