Job DescriptionSGS is currently looking for E&I Inspectors in various states. This is not a full‑time position; the contract could be a day, several days, weeks – it depends on the work. The contractor will sign an independent‑contractor (1099) or sub‑contractor agreement with SGS North America Inc. Work will be assigned on an as‑needed basis and paid for the hours/days and applicable costs incurred on the assigned work.
Responsibilities- Ensure electrical/instrumentation installations meet codes (NEC/IEC), specifications, and safety standards by conducting on‑site inspections, testing systems (wiring, panels, sensors, controls, calibration), and documenting non‑conformities (NCRs).
- Verify correct installation of electrical components (switch gear, panels, cables) and instruments (sensors, transmitters, control valves).
- Witness and verify continuity, insulation resistance, and functional tests.
- Ensure adherence to project specifications, engineering drawings, and standards such as NEC and IEC.
- Identify quality issues.
- Create detailed inspection reports, non‑conformance reports (NCRs).
- Record inspection results and any non‑conformities.
- Investigate non‑conformities to identify causes and assist in corrective actions.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers, engineers, and other personnel.
- AEI, IAEI, CEI and/or Comp Ex preferred.
- NFPA 70 knowledge is an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience.
- 3–4 years of shop/vendor surveillance experience.
- Understanding of E&I processes, codes, and standards.
- Experience in industrial sectors such as oil & gas, power & utility, construction, manufacturing, etc.
- Available intermittently – when and where required based on job needs.
- Expenses (hotel, flight, meals, etc.) reimbursed at cost, applicable only if the job location is outside the city of residence and with client's prior approval.
- Compensation: $40–$47 per hour plus mileage depending on experience.
