Our Client has a requirement for a Design Coordinator, who will be required to work on a contract basis at Heathrow Airport.
RolePurpose:
This role is supporting a major construction project delivering a new building to house a baggage handling system at Heathrow Airport. With the project currently in RIBA Stage 5 (Manufacturing and Construction) and progressing towards Stage 6 (Handover and Close Out), the successful candidate will focus on design coordination, issue resolution, quality assurance, and ensuring all deliverables are completed to support operational readiness and final handover.
The role is predominantly site-based at Heathrow Compass Centre and will require travel across airport terminals and, where necessary, external designer and subcontractor premises.
JobRole Responsibilities:
- Support the Design Manager with design delivery activities across multiple project work streams.
- Manage and coordinate the resolution of design issues, Requests for Information (RFIs), Technical Queries (TQs), concessions and Building Control queries.
- Coordinate interfaces between clients, architects, engineers and specialist subcontractors.
- Review specialist subcontractor workshop drawings to ensure alignment with approved Stage 4 designs.
- Coordinate design changes across structural, civil and MEP disciplines to ensure fully integrated solutions.
- Drive the close-out of technical architectural and engineering issues to achieve final Building Control approval.
- Coordinate the collection, review and management of as-built documentation and updated BIM models.
- Lead design coordination meetings with designers and suppliers where required.
- Produce technical meeting minutes and track actions through to completion.
- Support document control activities and transmittal of design information.
- Monitor, track and report on outstanding design and technical issues.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with the Design Management Plan.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related discipline.
- Experience working on large multidisciplinary construction projects.
- Strong experience managing RFIs, technical queries, concessions and design issues.
- Proficiency with Common Data Environments (CDEs), such as Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience coordinating information across architectural, structural, civil and MEP disciplines.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Master's degree or postgraduate qualification.
- Experience on aviation infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with Heathrow Airport project procedures and processes.
- Experience using CAD and BIM software and methodologies.
- Good understanding of RIBA Stages of Work.
- Previous experience supporting project handover and close-out activities.
