BSL Teaching Assistant - Full‑Time (ASAP or after notice)

Zest Education is recruiting a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school supporting pupils aged 11‑16. This full‑time role begins ASAP or following your notice period, offering £90‑£110 per day depending on experience. Candidates with BSL Level 1 or above are especially encouraged to apply.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students can fully access learning and feel confident in the classroom. Daily responsibilities include:

• Classroom support – helping students understand lesson content through signing, visual cues, and adapted communication.
• One‑to‑one assistance – supporting individual pupils with communication, comprehension, and engagement.
• Small‑group work – reinforcing learning objectives and helping students build confidence.
• Collaboration with teachers – adapting resources, preparing accessible materials, and feeding back on student progress.
• Pastoral support – promoting inclusion, well‑being, and positive relationships across the school day.
• Classroom communication facilitation – ensuring students can participate in discussions, group tasks, and wider school life.

• Experience with SEN – either in a school, youth work, care, or community setting.
• Communication skills – especially with young people who use alternative communication methods.
• Empathy and resilience – essential for supporting students with varied needs.
• Adaptability – able to adjust your approach depending on the student and the lesson.
• Teamwork – working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff.
• A genuine interest in BSL – whether you’re already qualified or keen to develop further.
