Accounts Receivable Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Specialist to join a team in Houston, Texas and make an immediate impact on day-to-day receivables operations. This contract-to-permanent position is suited for someone who can work independently, bring structure to AR activities, and confidently handle credit, collections, and account inquiries. The role calls for strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to improve accuracy and cash flow in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the full receivables cycle, including invoice review, payment posting, collections follow-up, and customer account maintenance.

- Review aging activity regularly and take prompt action on past-due balances to support timely cash recovery and reduce outstanding debt.

- Evaluate customer credit information, process credit applications independently, and help maintain appropriate payment terms and credit controls.

- Reconcile accounts receivable records against the general ledger, investigate variances, and correct discrepancies to ensure reliable reporting.

- Partner with sales, customer service, and finance contacts to resolve billing questions, payment issues, and account disputes efficiently.

- Produce recurring reports on collections performance, account status, and receivables trends to support leadership decision-making.

- Recommend and implement improvements to AR workflows, internal controls, and documentation practices to strengthen efficiency and reduce risk.

- Use accounting and ERP systems, including Epicor P21 when applicable, to research transactions, answer AR-related questions, and support ongoing process needs. Requirements - High school diploma required; additional college coursework in accounting, finance, or business is preferred.

- At least 5 years of progressive accounts receivable experience in a business environment that requires strong attention to detail.

- Working knowledge of general ledger activity, account reconciliation, billing, cash applications, and commercial collections.

- Ability to manage credit reviews and customer account research with minimal direction.

- Experience using accounting or ERP platforms such as Oracle, Quick Books, SAP, or similar systems;
Epicor P21 experience is strongly preferred.

- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills for analysis, tracking, and reporting.

- Clear conversational English communication skills with the ability to respond effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving ability with a record of improving receivables performance.
