Accounting Clerk

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our team in Houston, Texas on a Contract basis. This position supports daily accounting operations with a strong emphasis on accurate transaction processing, payment handling, and financial record maintenance rather than senior-level accounting or period-end close work. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, communicating with internal and external contacts, and using Quick Books and Excel to keep financial information organized and current.

Responsibilities:

- Manage day-to-day payables activities, including reviewing invoices, confirming vendor details, and assigning the correct general ledger coding before processing.

- Record financial transactions and journal entries in Quick Books while maintaining precise and timely data entry across accounting records.

- Prepare daily cash reporting and provide regular financial status updates to leadership at the close of each business day.

- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations by matching transactions, investigating discrepancies, and monitoring account activity for accuracy.

- Coordinate payment processing tasks such as preparing check runs, uploading payment information, and ensuring disbursements are completed on schedule.

- Respond to payment-related questions from drivers and other contacts, offering timely follow-up and clear communication.

- Support accounts receivable and other routine accounting tasks as needed to maintain smooth daily operations.

- Perform administrative accounting duties such as scanning supporting documents, assembling checks for mailing, and organizing financial paperwork.

- Use Excel to generate reports, sort and filter data, and assist with basic spreadsheet-based review and analysis. Requirements - Experience supporting accounting operations in an Accounting Clerk, Accounts Payable, or similar transactional finance role.

- Working knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, including invoice handling and payment support.

- Proficiency with Quick Books for entering transactions, maintaining records, and reviewing financial activity.

- Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to reconcile bank and credit card activity and identify inconsistencies in financial records.

- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel for reporting, sorting, filtering, and basic analysis.

- Effective communication skills for interacting with leadership, vendors, and drivers regarding payment and account matters.
