Advising Assistant - Global Hospitality Leadership

University of Houston is hiring an Advising Assistant - Global Hospitality Leadership. The role supports undergraduate and graduate students in the Global Hospitality Leadership department by preparing degree plans, advising on degree requirements, and keeping student records and class schedules up to date. The assistant also corresponds with applicants about admissions and helps with registration and new student orientation.

• Advise current and prospective students on degree requirements and administrative procedures, and prepare degree plans along with the department's degree requirement handouts and forms.
• Correspond with applicants by phone, letter, and email about application procedures, status, financial aid, and prerequisites.
• Take part in student registration and drop/add sessions, and assist faculty with changes such as grade changes, student petitions, and leaves of absence.
• Compile information on applicants for admissions and assistantships to monitor status and identify deserving students.
• Create and maintain hardcopy files for students and applicants.
• Prepare revisions to the class schedule, including classroom assignments, and possibly the faculty assignment roster.
• Assist with new student orientation and represent the department at university events such as Cougar Preview.
• At least one year of directly job-related experience and a high school diploma or GED level of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic math; two years of customer service experience is preferred.
• Pay range of $18.73 to $20.82 per hour in a full-time position.
