Responsibilities- Ensure that paycheck amounts are distributed in accordance with federal regulations and may also be responsible for reporting tax deductions.
- Work closely with the business accountant regarding tax matters and enforce any government garnishments of wages for child support, loan defaults, or bankruptcy.
- Verify attendance, hours worked, vacation time, sick time and pay adjustments, and post information onto designated records.
- Review time sheets, wage computation and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies.
- Process paperwork for new employees and enter employee information into the payroll system.
- Must have a clear understanding and knowledge of Child Support/Garnishment regulations.
- Record employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, to maintain and update payroll records.
- Process and issue employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
- Issue and record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive increases.
- Communicate with project site contact person to ensure the integrity of the payroll data including data related to new hires, terminations, transfers and rate changes.
- Research and resolve questions from managers and employees as they relate to the processing of payroll information such as banking, garnishments, employment verifications, workers compensation, retroactive pay calculations, tax questions, and other changes.
- In addition to these responsibilities, other payroll and/or financial duties may be assigned.
- High School diploma required. Associate degree with emphasis on business preferred.
- 2 years’ experience with computerized payroll processing.
- Experience with JD Edwards (Oracle) software is a plus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Access, Excel).
- Ability to handle highly confidential information.
- Must be self-starter and detail oriented.
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines.
- Must be dependable.
