Position Overview

The Assistant Estimator supports the estimating team under a general contractor, aiding in the preparation of bids, cost estimates, and pre-construction planning for commercial and/or residential projects in Houston.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review bid documents, architectural plans, specifications, addenda, and reports to understand project scope and detect inconsistencies.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs using software such as Bluebeam Revu, HCSS Estimating, or similar tools.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers: issue bid requests, gather quotations, and assess bids.
  • Assemble and maintain bid tracking systems such as “scope assignment folders” or bid trackers.
  • Prepare scope sheets comparing subcontractor quotes using company templates.
  • Assist in assembling bid packages and proposals, ensuring compliance with submittal requirements.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and bid openings; occasionally visit job sites to verify quantities and conditions.
  • Support estimator in documentation management—organizing reports, estimates, contracts, permits, and correspondence.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience
    : 0–3 years in construction, estimating, or related roles acceptable. Internships or co-op experience considered.

Software Proficiency
:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Estimating tools:
    Bluebeam Revu, HCSS Estimating, or equivalent.

  • Effective written and verbal communication; able to liaise with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
