Anatomy Core Services (Assistant Professor)

The successful applicant will report directly to the Medical Director of the Anatomical Education Core (AEC) for work assignment and daily operations. This person will also work closely with, and under the leadership of, the Executive Director of the Willed Body Program (WBP) on handling human specimens.

The educational activities of the School of Medicine and/or School of Health Professions include:

• Didactic lectures, human gross anatomy dissection labs and neuroanatomy labs.
• Providing guidance to teaching assistants in gross anatomy and neuroanatomy labs.
• Editing course management and exam software, including exam creation and upload, lecture slide and syllabi uploads, grading, maintenance of video access and monitoring of discussion boards.
• Developing and editing videos for gross anatomy teaching.
• Collaborating with faculty members and instructional design core to develop examination materials.
• Participating in course reviews.
• Collaborating with audiovisual and IT teams including proper recording of lectures and troubleshooting of course management and exam software.
• Participating in curriculum committee activities of the School of Medicine and School of Health Professions to assist in curriculum development and anatomy course design.
• Participating in faculty development and training for teaching.
• Providing suggestions to course directors and school leadership about anatomy education.
• Maintaining and organizing teaching specimens including human donors and anatomy models.
• Assisting in development of teaching specimens for anatomy courses, such as prosected donors.
• Participating in student office hours (in-person meetings, video conferencing, discussion board monitoring and answering student emails).
• Providing support to the Executive Director of the Willed Body Program (WBP) during inventory and inspections.
• Participating in regular cadaver and specimen inventory inspections with the anatomical embalmers/lab manager.
• Recruitment and direct supervision of Teaching assistants in the anatomical sciences.
• Liaison and coordination of all anatomy educational needs in the School of Medicine (UME and GME) Houston campus.
• School of Health Professions in Houston campus. BCM Temple, Texas regional campus.
• Assignment and scheduling of anatomy teaching spaces for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME), including medical and health profession students, residents, and outside vendors.

Partner with the Executive Director of the Willed Body Program in:

• Identifying the unique needs of each learner group so educational opportunities are maximized.
• Developing and annually reviewing budgets, lab procedures and college policies as they relate to anatomical specimen procurement and use in Baylor College of Medicine facilities.
• Assisting in communication, orientation and enforcement of established policies and procedures to all facility users (facility, staff and trainee groups as well as vendors).
• Participating in annual review of perpetual improvement planning for both short-term and long-term goals including information technology, virtual education modalities, human specimen handling, and laboratory improvement.

• An earned terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., MD/PhD, DPT or equivalent)
• One to three full years' experience in teaching medical or health professional students'
• Two or more years of teaching human anatomy subjects (gross, embryology, histology, neuroanatomy) to medical and health professional students in North American educational institution.
