Job DescriptionThe purpose of this role is to provide engaging learning activities and support that enable students to achieve course objectives and contribute positively to the educational environment of Lone Star College and the community. Adjunct faculty will plan, develop, and teach economics courses on a part‑time basis, emphasizing student learning.
Essential Job Functions- Teach economics courses at a variety of times and locations;
- Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material;
- Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner;
- Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines;
- Meet with and advise students before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods;
- Evaluate students to measure progress toward course objectives and inform students of their progress in a timely manner;
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community;
- Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required;
- Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people;
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies (collaborative learning, learning communities, distance learning);
- Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and a dynamic climate for lifelong learning;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and effective use of technology;
- Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning.
- Master’s degree in Economics or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Economics.
The work is sedentary, typically requiring sitting. Occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items (e.g., papers, books) may be required. No special physical demands are necessary.
Work Schedule And Conditions- Use of PC workstation, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment;
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position;
- Work performed in a climate‑controlled classroom or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards;
- Hours vary depending on class time; instructors must meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.
$55.44 per contact hour.
