Description

The College of Education at the University of Houston Clear Lake seeks qualified applicants for a 9‑month, full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting fall of 2026. This position is dedicated to teaching primarily undergraduate Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, with the requirement to teach select courses in Spanish since some of the bilingual education courses are taught in Spanish.

The ideal candidate must hold an earned doctoral degree in Bilingual Education or a closely related area and a demonstrated record of emerging scholarship and effective, student‑centered teaching.

Duties
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in bilingual education and/or ESL education.
  • Mentor, advise, and supervise undergraduate students in a variety of settings.
  • Engage in scholarly activities emphasizing research and publication.
  • Supervise master’s theses and doctoral dissertations.
  • Provide leadership and contribute expertise in curriculum and program development.
  • Engage in service activities within the program, college, university, professional organizations, and local communities.
Qualifications Required
  • An earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) with primary emphasis in Bilingual Education or a related area. Per our accreditation requirements, candidates must have a minimum of 18 hours of graduate‑level course credit in Bilingual Education and 18 hours in ESL (though some courses may count towards both areas).
  • Evidence of current bilingual educator certification.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in a Spanish/English bilingual setting in public schools or related settings.
  • An emerging record of research and scholarly publications in English or Spanish.
Preferred
  • Experience with teaching Bilingual and ESL education courses in higher education, including foundational, theoretical, and/or pedagogical courses that emphasize the cycle of lesson planning as well as integrating content and language standards.
  • Current (within the last five years) experience in bilingual settings in public schools.
  • Experience supervising college students in bilingual and/or ESL settings.
  • Experience and/or qualifications associated with bilingual special education.
