The Head Start Teacher role involves working with typically developing children and children with disabilities in a Head Start program, ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering children's intellectual, social, and physical development.
Responsibilities- Work with program management and specialist staff to ensure classroom environment and activities meet all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including Head Start standards, Texas Education Agency, NAEYC Accreditation, and TDFPS regulations.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
- Plan and implement the prescribed educational curriculum through learning experiences that advance children's intellectual, social, and physical development.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and daily routines for children in accordance with each child's needs, based on observing and recording children’s interests and current levels of functioning.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, based on authentic, performance‑based assessment and research consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Screen, observe, and document progress in the program-prescribed assessment system.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding their children’s academic and developmental progress and document the communications.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teaching assistants and volunteers.
- Perform professional responsibilities in terms of regular attendance, accurate records, and timely submission of reports.
- Perform any other duties as may be required.
- Teacher credential at the EC‑6 level, supplemented by a bilingual supplement.
- Experience working with typically developing children and children with disabilities in a Head Start or similar early childhood setting.
- Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards, Texas Education Agency policies, NAEYC Accreditation standards, and TDFPS regulations.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning environments.
- Ability to design, implement, and assess lesson plans tailored to individual child needs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with parents, staff, and community partners.
- Record‑keeping and reporting competency to meet program requirements.
