Job Description

Purpose and Scope: The Accompanist provides piano accompaniment for music students. May provide additional assistance in support of Music Department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attends rehearsals and performances in support of the Music Department.
  • Ensures that students have opportunity to learn the music score, diction, pitch, tempo, rhythm, and style.
  • Coordinates lesson plans with Instructor.
  • Monitors that students meet their rehearsal requirements.
  • Provides Instructor with student evaluations of practice effort and approach during rehearsals.
  • Provides piano accompaniment for music activities to include choirs/instrumental/solo rehearsals and performances, assists students to read the assigned music with the right tempo, rhythm, pitch, diction and style.
  • Performs at major productions as scheduled by Instructor.
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Skilled pianist
    • Extensive knowledge of vocal repertoire
    • Excellent sight-reading ability
    • Cheerful and positive demeanor

    Physical Abilities:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    Work Schedule and

    Conditions:

    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, and a piano
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office/theater environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Music or related field and at least 3 years of related work experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in a higher education setting
    • Previous experience working with students who have unique barriers and experience in assisting these students with their educational success

    Salary

    Hourly Pay Rate is $42.40
