Purpose and Scope

Tutors and instructs students and community members who need learning assistance in assigned discipline(s) and study skills. Primary responsibilities include providing tutoring and related services, and fostering an atmosphere conducive to and encouraging learning. Responsible for the general areas of student academic support, institutional service, and professional development.

Essential Job Functions
  • Effectively deliver tutoring services to students at scheduled times (individual or group sessions). Post and maintain a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments.
  • Assist students with the development of study skills necessary for post‑secondary education.
  • Keep regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Monitor and review student work. Modify and personalize tutoring strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
  • Facilitate the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress.
  • Interact with LSC staff and/or faculty to obtain necessary course syllabi or materials, and develop tutoring materials in support of the course.
  • Deliver feedback to staff and/or faculty regarding student progress.
  • Continue professional education through research and review of relevant material relating to the assigned subject matter.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed (e.g., covering the Courtesy Counter, answering phones, organizing materials, checking out resources, and performing other assigned duties).
  • Complete and submit required documents accurately and timely.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings as required.
  • Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the assigned discipline’s subject matter.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Commitment to quality service to students.
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision.
Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes a PC workstation, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
  • Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required.

Salary: Hourly Pay Rate ranges from $14.42 to $28.90, dependent on education and CRLA certification level.
