Manager, Business Operations – Professional Education & Career Development

Summary

The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a Manager, Business Operations. This position will lead the professional education and career development initiatives/programs for trainees, faculty and staff in Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center. Oversight will include training grants, ACGME fellowship program, Texas Medical Board (TMB) advanced fellowship program, clinical and research observerships, educational conferences and the people leadership and financial planning/analysis that support each of these activities.

This position is located onsite in the Texas Medical Center.

• Leads and manages the daily operations of the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center (TXCH) professional education and career development initiatives including but not limited to NIH-funded training grants, research seminars, fellowship programs, conferences, student internships, and observerships.

• Fellowship programs include:
  Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) Fellowship Program (18 ACGME positions); PHO Advanced Fellowship Program (8 TMB approved positions).

• Research and clinical observership program:
  Facilitates the approval, onboarding and overall experience for more than 150 observers/annually.

• Summer Student Internship:
  Facilitates the position and funding approval process and the onboarding and execution of the program for 20‑30 positions/annually.

• Develops and manages BCM and TCH budgets for the TXCH’s professional education and career development including establishing and carrying out processes and procedures to support financial analysis, identification of funding needs, and variance mitigation. Encompasses the management of both BCM and TCH cost centers and five unique restricted funds. Each cost center/restricted fund has a distinct budget.

• Manages NIH-funded training grants including the K12, U2C/TL1, & T32 in partnership with Principal Investigators. Reviews and approves all statements of accounts, payroll, human resources, and invoice actions within BCM and TCH for TXCH’s professional education and professional development.

• Manages primarily support level employees, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and goals, and conducting annual performance evaluations. (Current: 1‑direct, 2‑indirect). Establishes staffing plans, schedules and productivity guidelines according to budget availability, and education event‑related needs for TXCH’s professional education and career development. Staffing includes direct and indirect employees as well as engagement with other stakeholders to support the needs of TXCH professional education and career development.

• Management includes strategic and programmatic planning, contributing author on the competing renewals, and partner with Pre‑and Post‑Award teams to prepare and submit annual progress reports, data tables, and other documentation required by sponsors.

• Manages the human resources activities for the TXCH professional education and career development, including hiring, terminations, salary, and disciplinary actions.

• Formulates policies and guidelines for TXCH’s professional education and career development initiatives and programs.

• Identifies and implements innovative solutions for TXCH’s professional education and career development initiatives and programs.

• Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Four years of relevant experience.

• Master’s degree in educational leadership, business or healthcare administration.
• Four years of experience in the field of academic education/healthcare setting with a preference for experience in event management and execution and management of educational programs that are NIH funded.
• Direct supervisory experience preferred.
