Job Description Purpose and ScopeUnder general supervision the Part Time Assistant II, Library, assists students, faculty and the general public in obtaining library circulating and reserve resources. Basic duties may include receiving, logging and interpreting information, sorting and processing library materials deliveries, answering non‑routine questions and inquiries, providing information and directions and providing a customer friendly environment. Activities are routine but may involve non‑routine requests or specialized information.
EssentialJob Functions
Serves as public contact for the library in person, by telephone and email;
Screens and refers patrons to reference librarians when professional assistance is needed
Records daily activity statistics;
Collection inventory and shelf reading
Issues HCPL library cards to public patrons
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of office practice and procedures
- Working knowledge of personal computers and common office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
- Knowledge of Horizon Automated Library System
- Knowledge of People Soft
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize duties using sound customer service principles
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential
- Ability to problem solve equipment problems
