Job Title: Special Education Assessment Supervisor

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Classification: Professional

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose: Responsible for the Supervision of District Diagnosticians and Licensed Professionals in School Psychology. Responsible for providing communication and consultation with Administrators, Assessment staff, teachers, parents, community agencies, and other support personnel. Responsible for the growth and development of assessment staff.

Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:

  • Master’s Degree in educational assessment or related field.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate Preferred.
  • Valid Texas certificate for position (Diagnostician) or valid Texas license by the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
  • Principal Certification Preferred.
  • Bilingual Preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to grow and develop Assessment staff by offering training and support in the area of Evaluation.
  • Ability to supervise Diagnosticians and other Assessment personnel.
  • Effectively communicate with administrators, Assessment Staff, parents and support personnel.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate and solve problems with co-workers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures.

Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Diagnostician or Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assessment:
  • Oversee and monitor evaluations completed by Diagnosticians and/or LSSPs.
  • Review written assessment reports according to district guidelines.
  • Provide consultation to Assessment Staff to identify potential disabilities and provide strategies to support student learning.
  • Monitor State and Federal Timelines to ensure evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with Speech Language Pathology Supervisor and Coordinators.

Intervention:
  • Serve as a resource to assessment staff in determining appropriate services for students with disabilities.
  • Ensure proper documentation of SHARS submissions.
  • Ensure ARD documents are maintained with accuracy at the building level.
  • Deliver appropriate coaching, training, and resources to support the professional growth of assessment staff.

Professional Growth and Development:
  • Train assessment staff on best practices of evaluation (e.g. in-service, workshops, group, individual or web based sessions).
  • Collaborate with all Assessment staff to ensure students are being assessed in all areas of suspected disability.
  • Collaborate with appropriate assistive technology staff to meet the needs of students and teachers working with technology.

Program Management:
  • Maintain documents, files and records (license information, usage logs, inventory, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference information.
  • Monitor maintenance of all physical and electronic reports, records and other required documentation including case records, protocols, tests results and test inventories.
  • Monitor compliance with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules and local board policy in the areas of psychological services, assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
  • Comply with all district and department regulations and guidelines.
  • Recruit and hire Assessment Staff.

Communication:
  • Support the collaboration and communication among school and district staff.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly (verbal and written).
  • Uphold district confidentiality procedures.

Other:
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
