Position: High Quality Pre-K Teacher, 2026-2027

Title: High Quality Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Compensation: $60,000 - $68,000 per year

Status: Exempt

Our School

Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020, beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are looking for dedicated and motivated individuals who are excited by the challenge of being part of a growing school.

Teaching in Our High-Quality Prekindergarten Program

At Houston Classical, exceptional teaching is the foundation of scholar success—beginning in our Texas High-Quality Prekindergarten (HQPK) program. Our Pre-K classrooms operate in full alignment with state HQPK standards to provide developmentally appropriate, high-quality early learning experiences.

This position is governed by Texas High-Quality Prekindergarten (HQPK) requirements. In accordance with state guidelines, candidates must meet all required HQPK qualifications, including applicable credentials and training, to be eligible for consideration. Due to these requirements, Houston Classical is only able to consider applications from candidates who possess the appropriate qualifications at the time of hire.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate an unwavering belief that all scholars can achieve their highest potential.
  • Implement a rigorous, inquiry-based curriculum that aligns with classical education principles, integrating core subjects such as early literacy, math, science, and social-emotional development.
  • Design lessons that engage students through Socratic questioning, interactive discussions, and hands‑on activities.
  • Create developmentally appropriate lessons that engage children through hands‑on activities, creative exploration, and guided discussions.
  • Tailor instruction creatively to provide high‑quality, meaningful learning experiences.
  • Establish and uphold rigorous academic and behavioral expectations for all scholars.
  • Quickly adjust lessons and teaching methods to promote academic and emotional growth.
  • Consider diverse learning styles when planning lessons, ensuring all scholars can engage fully.
  • Develop and sustain a clean, organized, and student‑centered classroom environment.
  • Embrace receiving and giving feedback to foster professional growth.
  • Participate actively in learning opportunities with colleagues, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain impeccable attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Exhibit superior communication skills to engage with scholars, families, and colleagues.
  • Approach all tasks with dedication and diligence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (Required)
  • Must hold a SBEC Texas Educator Certificate in Early Childhood and have one of the following:
    • Certification offered through a training center accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale or through the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education
    • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
    • Documented completion of the Texas School Ready Training Program (TSR Comprehensive)
    • An associate or baccalaureate degree in ECE, Special Education‑ECE, or a non‑ECE degree with 15 units of ECE‑specific coursework
    • At least eight years of experience teaching in a nationally accredited child care program or Texas Rising Star Program
  • Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred
  • Previous experience in an early childhood or Pre‑K educational setting preferred
  • Exhibit integrity, self‑awareness, resilience, and perseverance
  • Ability to take and implement feedback swiftly
  • A strong commitment to the belief that all children can achieve their highest potential
