Postdoctoral Associate - Study of Women, Gender, & Sexuality
The Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality (CSWGS) at Rice University seeks candidates for a postdoctoral associate in the humanities or social sciences whose research and teaching centers on gender and sexuality. The research focus on global South site(s) and/or issues of race is a plus.
Position Summary
The Center is particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate a record of feminist research, innovative teaching, and the potential to contribute to the Center by offering courses and workshops in engaged research. The postdoc is expected to make significant progress in their research and publication, to participate actively in the intellectual life of the Center, and to teach three courses per year.
Ph.D. must be conferred between June 29, 2023, and June 30, 2026. The fellowship has a term of one year, beginning July 1, 2026, and is renewable for a second year upon successful completion of the first year. The postdoc will receive an annual salary of $70,000 plus benefits, a signing bonus of $1,500 in lieu of relocation reimbursements, and $1,500 for research expenses.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a humanities or social science discipline, conferred between June 29, 2023, and June 30, 2026
Preferred Qualifications
- Research and/or teaching focused on global South site(s)
- Research and/or teaching focused on issues of race
- Familiarity with engaged research methodologies
Essential Functions
- Teach three undergraduate courses in the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality per academic year
- Progress significantly in research and toward publication, for example, by conducting research, developing manuscripts, and presenting at conferences
- Participate in the intellectual life of the Center alongside undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and visiting scholars
- Serve on the Center’s Steering Committee for the duration of the fellowship
