Job Description

The Pre‑K Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in delivering a nurturing, developmentally appropriate early childhood program for Pre‑K students during the 2025–2026 school year. This role plays a key part in supporting young children’s learning, safety, toileting needs, and social‑emotional development in alignment with The Village School’s mission and Nord Anglia Education standards.

Early Childhood and Instructional Support
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lessons and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Support children during individual, small‑group, and whole‑group learning.
  • Facilitate play‑based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, independence, and social development.
  • Assist with observing and documenting children’s progress and developmental milestones.
Toileting, Hygiene and Personal Care
  • Assist children with toileting, including diapering or bathroom support as needed, in accordance with school policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Support handwashing, hygiene routines, and self‑care skill development.
  • Assist with clothing changes, accidents, and comfort needs in a respectful and age‑appropriate manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of toileting and classroom areas.
Classroom and Learning Environment
  • Prepare and maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Set up learning centers, prepare materials, and display student work.
  • Assist with snack routines, classroom organization, and daily transitions.
  • Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is temporarily out of the room.
Student Supervision and Well‑Being
  • Supervise students during indoor and outdoor play, including playground activities.
  • Ensure student safety during all classroom routines and transitions.
  • Support children’s social‑emotional development by modeling positive behavior.
  • Treat all children with dignity, patience, and respect.
Qualifications and Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Training or coursework in early childhood education preferred.
  • Willingness to complete required early childhood, safeguarding, and health & safety training.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of caring for young children, including lifting, bending, and assisting with personal care.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young children.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with young children (early childhood setting preferred).
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, including social, emotional, physical, and cognitive milestones.
  • Experience supporting toileting, hygiene routines, and transitions for young children.
  • Familiarity with play‑based learning environments and classroom routines.
  • Experience working with diverse families and cultures preferred.
