Job SummaryAs an Adjunct Faculty member, you will design, teach, and assess Developmental English courses for students at Lone Star College. You will collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum and student learning while contributing to the academic community.
Essential Job Functions- Teach Developmental English courses at varied times and locations.
- Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of course material.
- Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
- Utilize a course syllabus for each course following institutional guidelines.
- Meet with and advise students before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
- Evaluate students to measure progress in achieving course objectives and inform students in a timely manner.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
- Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.
- Mastery of course content.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative, team‑based style.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies.
- Commitment to academic excellence and dynamic lifelong learning.
- Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as civic engagement, learning communities, and effective technology use.
- Effective strategies to engage students in learning.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in English, literature, creative writing, or a related field; or Master’s degree in a related field.
- Relevant teaching or training experience in the above mentioned fields.
- Work is performed in a climate‑controlled classroom with minimal safety hazards.
- Hours vary depending on class time; instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.
$55.44 per contact hour.
