Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean, Office of Student Services, is responsible to assist students from admission to graduation by advising on the selection of major and the subsequent classes that align with chosen major.

  • Advises and assist students with selection of major and classes.
  • Works with the Office of Student Services, TSU Registrar, and other campus offices on related matters such as graduation applications, registration, commencement, etc.
  • Coordinates interviews for program candidates.
  • Transcripts evaluations of incoming students.
  • Attends and participates in college/university recruiting events.
  • Attends and participates in college/university student, outreach and special events and ceremonies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $45,486.69 - $57,995.53

Education

Required Licensing/Certification

Valid Texas Driver's License preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Multiple disciplines and serves as an ultimate subject matter expert in several professional disciplines and is the go-to expert on principles, methods and procedures.
  • Requires seasoned skills in the job function or professional discipline; performs more complex but expected work for a fully competent incumbent in the function or discipline; demonstrates an understanding of most work routines, rules, procedures and operations; may give advice to other, less experienced positions or provide technical leadership to job classifications performing similar work.
  • Technical and functional principles and procedures.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
Skill in:
  • Problem-solving and decision‑making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
Ability to:
  • Create methods and approaches to handle unique situations.
  • Work independently.
  • Advise and communicate effectively.
Work Experience

More than three (3) years of related experience higher education academic advising.

Working/Environmental Conditions

  • Prolonged standing and/or walking.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
