Field/Service Technician
Job Description
Quaise Energy is unlocking the Earth's deep heat to deliver clean, reliable baseload energy at scale - almost anywhere in the world. As both a technology innovator and project developer, Quaise builds and operates solutions that harness superhot geothermal energy far below the surface, enabling power generation that can rival the output of today's most efficient fossil fuel and nuclear plants.
With its millimeter‑wave drilling (MMWD) technology, Quaise's mission is to make superhot geothermal a backbone of the modern energy system, offering affordable, zero‑carbon power and true energy independence for communities and nations everywhere.
The Field Technician I supports the build‑out of Quaise's field operations capability as we advance geothermal energy development. This position focuses on hands‑on support for field‑based testing and prototype drilling operations using MMWD systems. The field operations team is responsible for assembling, operating, and maintaining the MMWD system at sites across the U.S. and potentially internationally. This includes working with gyrotrons, high‑voltage power supplies, chillers, compressors, pumps, sensors, vacuum systems, and conventional drilling rig equipment.
The Field Technician I will apply mechanical aptitude and prior field experience to ensure safe and efficient operations while contributing to rig‑up, rig‑over, pipe handling, and general field activities.
- Work on a 15‑5 rotation schedule, with 12‑hour day or night shifts depending on assignment.
- Support safe and efficient field operations; participate in risk assessments prior to each activity.
- Assist with rigging up, rigging over, and rigging down the MMWD system.
- Function as a floorhand during drilling and field operations.
- Assemble, test, and prepare equipment prior to job execution.
- Maintain accurate field operations records, daily logs, and documentation.
- Support troubleshooting activities and contribute to root cause analysis for equipment or operational issues.
- Identify and propose practical solutions to technical or operational challenges.
- Record all non‑conformances and non‑productive time and report them to management.
- Provide feedback to engineering teams to improve the safety and performance of MMWD systems.
- Contribute to capturing lessons learned and documenting procedures to enhance future operations.
- Operate as part of a unified field team to deliver efficient and safe field trials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong practical, mechanical, and hands‑on skills.
- Proficient knowledge of hand tools and basic mechanical operations.
- Ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced field environment.
- IADC Rig Pass Certification (or equivalent) preferred.
- Ability to work safely in harsh conditions (hot, cold, dusty, noisy).
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing field needs.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Preferred 2‑Year trade school/Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
- 2‑4 years of experience on a drilling rig (Floorhand/Motorman).
- The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, as well as use hands to feel, reach, grasp, handle, or operate objects, tools and/or controls.
- The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer, or move items up to 60 pounds and perform physical tasks in field environments.
- Ability to travel and relocate temporarily to field sites (housing support provided).
- Flexibility to work non‑traditional schedules and adapt to changing work locations.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions such as hot and cold environments.
- The vision requirement includes reviewing written and electronic materials in digital and physical format.
