About the Role
Grade Level (for internal use): 11. The Team:
This position would be on the North American team of the Global Power and Renewables Consulting Practice in CI Consulting, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights division. The team advises a wide range of clients – including developers, utilities, governments, and investors – on power markets, renewable asset transactions, grid-edge technologies, and the growing interconnections between power and adjacent sectors like datacenters/AI, electrification, and energy storage.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, fast-growing team of consultants and experts with diverse backgrounds in energy and the energy transition. The evolving consulting landscape fosters continuous skill development and exposure to a wide range of industries and senior stakeholders. Candidates should already bring a breadth of professional experience in the power sector.
- Lead project teams and manage the analysis and reporting required to deliver high-quality client engagements, while also independently completing work as needed.
- Apply deep energy industry expertise across markets to support consulting needs, including power supply-demand modeling, regulatory analysis, entry strategies, scenario planning, generation economics, reliability studies, and asset due diligence.
- Drive new consulting business by building client relationships, identifying opportunities, developing proposals, closing sales, and overseeing project delivery.
- Craft client proposals with clear, compelling communication and analytical creativity to align deliverables with client needs and maximize S&P Global’s value.
- Execute all analytical components necessary for successful client engagements.
- Communicate insights through well-structured reports, presentations, and direct client interactions.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of energy consulting, industry, or investment experience within power sector
- Prior management consulting experience
- Preferred Engineering, Science or Economics bachelor’s degree or another highly quantitative subject. Graduate degree preferred
- Good understanding of energy markets and underlying fundamentals, regulations, and policies; specific experience and/or knowledge of power markets, energy storage, and clean tech (solar, wind, energy efficiency, demand response, smart metering, fuel cells)
- Strong written and oral presentation skills
- Proficient public speaker, excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Some travel is required average around 20% of time (but could occasionally be more)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining and developing large models of complex systems
- Understanding of power dispatch and demand modelling, including understanding of third-party power dispatch software, such as Plexos and Aurora
- Advanced proficiency with programming languages (at least VBA; Python and SQL preferred)
