About the Role:

Reporter, Electrification and Climate Markets S&P Global Energy is seeking a reporter to cover the impact of expanding demand for power in North America, focusing on electrification, data centers and other emerging energy developments. The position will also involve coverage of power and environmental markets in the United States and Canada. You will produce must-read reporting and analysis for an audience that includes utilities, commodity traders and policymakers.

Our collaborative environment fosters professional growth and encourages innovative storytelling, ensuring that our reporting remains impactful and relevant in this ever-evolving sector. The successful candidate will be ready to skillfully balance beat-reporting, data analysis and enterprise journalism. Reporters at S&P Global are expected to build a strong area of expertise and develop networks of key sources.

Responsibilities and Impact
  • Report on the implications of rising electricity demand for power markets, utilities, transmission development and resource planning.
  • Cover electrification trends across transportation, industry, buildings and emerging large-load sectors, including data centers and advanced manufacturing.
  • Support US and Canada power market coverage.
  • Deliver differentiated reporting on renewable energy certificates and net zero initiatives.
  • Support key daily power and energy transition publications.

Compensation/Benefits

Information

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.

What We’re Looking For Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional journalism experience.
  • Strong writing and reporting skills, along with excellent news judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute story ideas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of power and environmental markets.
  • Demonstrated analytical and data visualization experience.
  • Experience participating in panels, podcasts and other media.
