Principal Consultant, Air Quality
Location:
Houston, Texas or Midland, Texas – partner‑track opportunity for an air quality professional seeking to advance their career with a global environmental leader.
ERM is looking for a highly motivated Principal Consultant with significant consulting experience and strong client relationships to grow our Air Quality services business in the Greater Houston and Midland regions.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement a strategic market/business plan to expand ERM’s air quality service area and client base, especially within Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, and Chemical sectors.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and lead account development with existing and new clients.
- Direct strategic air permits and compliance programs for industrial clients with complex technical and regulatory requirements, ensuring client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality are met.
- Manage project deliverables, budgets, and schedules, serving as a “seller/doer” to expand ERM’s air consulting services annually.
- Capitalize on existing client relationships to increase market share and cross‑sell other ERM services within the regional Air Quality market.
- Mentor junior and mid‑level staff in planning, execution, and technical review of air quality projects.
- Collaborate with global ERM air quality practitioners on multi‑office teams to deliver projects and share best practices.
- Demonstrate advanced subject‑matter expertise in air permitting and related areas such as air dispersion modeling, stormwater, CEQA permitting, and multi‑media auditing.
- Support cross‑selling of other ERM consulting service areas to existing clients.
- Recognized expert in federal and state air regulations.
- Experience leading and growing business in a dynamic market environment.
- BS in chemical, mechanical, environmental engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Professional registration such as P.E., CSP, CHMM, or similar (desired).
- 6+ years (12 years preferred) of solid air quality consulting experience with technical competence in Title V, PSD, NSR, BACT, and MACT.
- Strong track record of managing project deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
- In‑depth understanding of the Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, or Chemical industry in Texas with existing relationships to leverage new business.
- Consistent “seller/doer” record, including success in winning large and strategic projects.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring ability.
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Positive, collaborative attitude and dedication to ERM’s success as a global company.
