Electrical Project Engineer – EHV Substation (765 kV)
Join Black & Veatch, a 100 % ESOP‑owned engineering firm, as a Staff‑level Electrical Project Engineer. The role focuses on the design, procurement and construction of high‑voltage substation projects up to 765 kV.

Key Responsibilities- Serve as a technical specialist or project lead, coordinating substation projects from design through construction.
- Develop protection and control deliverables: protective relays, panel schematics, single‑line and three‑line diagrams, relay panel wiring, and equipment wiring.
- Create physical design documents: yard layout, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements and auxiliary power systems.
- Perform or oversee quality reviews of electrical substation design packages.
- Prepare equipment specifications, bills of materials and procurement schedules.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Present design proposals and project progress to senior leadership and clients.
- Manage design budgets, schedules and support business‑development initiatives.
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance across disciplines.
- Travel to client and project sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification as required.
- Extra‑high voltage (EHV) substation design experience (500 kV+) in protection & control or physical systems.
- Experience leading utility substation clients and projects.
- Strong QA/QC review skills and familiarity with industry standards.
- Proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Professional Engineer (PE) license highly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience in substation or high‑voltage electrical design.
- Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor‑vehicle record search).

Location:
World Headquarters, Overland Park, KS or approved regional office (Houston, TX; Chicago, IL; Bloomington, MN). Annual compensation range: $109,460 – $201,080, depending on experience and location.
