Quality Engineer

Venus Aerospace is revolutionizing rocket engine propulsion with the proprietary Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine and Venus Detonation Ramjets. Your role will support manufacturing quality of precision components for aerospace, defense, and commercial applications.

The role

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, precision, and consistency of machined and manufactured components. This role combines engineering expertise with hands‑on manufacturing and inspection experience to develop, implement, and sustain quality systems, processes, and tools that drive continuous improvement across production operations.

What You’ll Get To Do
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control processes and standards for machined parts, assemblies, and production processes.
  • Lead the effort to build out a QC department with an eye towards scaling in the near term.
  • Perform in‑process and FAI’s on precision‑machined components using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, CMMs, and optical measurement systems.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and GD&T compliance of parts against engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct process audits and collaborate with machinists, programmers, and production engineers to address quality concerns.
  • Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations for nonconforming materials and process deviations.
  • Develop our standards for assessing quality metrics (defects, scrap, rework, yield) to identify trends and implement process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain inspection plans, work instructions, and documentation within the QMS framework.
  • Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to support vendor site qualifications and supplier quality reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Support training and mentoring of production personnel on quality standards, inspection methods, and continuous improvement tools.
What You Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Quality, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or quality assurance within a machining or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining processes, GD&T interpretation, and precision measurement tools.
  • Experience with inspection equipment (CMM, surface profilometers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, etc.).
  • Experience with inspection software including PC‑DMIS, Zeiss, Poly Works, etc.
  • Familiarity with quality tools and methodologies such as FMEA, SPC, RCCA, and 8D problem solving.
  • Proficiency with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100) and related documentation practices.
  • Hands‑on experience with machine shop environments—comfortable collaborating directly with machinists and production technicians to resolve quality issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality or ERP software systems.
  • CQE or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification preferred.
