Location:

Houston, TX. Travel up to 20%. Exempt, full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. This position reports to the Civil/Structural Director and is in the Civil / Structural department.

ZAP is a full-service engineering, design, and construction management firm serving the oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing sectors. From our Houston, Texas office, we execute projects across North America, ranging from simple studies or maintenance repairs to full-scale design of large facilities.

About Your Role

This is a hands-on, full-time professional position with day-to-day tasks including the design of equipment foundations, equipment towers, building structures, pipe racks, platforms, and other structural components used in heavy industrial/manufacturing facilities or as required by clients.

Responsibilities
  • Structural Engineering
    • Execute structural calculations.
    • Coordinate with other discipline engineers and designers.
    • Perform site layout.
    • Review vendor drawings.
    • Write structural analysis reports.
  • Construction Documents
    • Coordinate with Structural AutoCAD designers to create facility 3D models and construction drawings.
    • Review drawings and models for accuracy.
    • Create contractor scopes of work.
    • Write specifications (pre-engineered metal buildings, Geotech, etc.).
  • Construction Support
    • Create contractor bid packages.
    • Create bills of material (BOMs).
    • Review shop drawings.
    • Answer RFIs from contractors.
  • Other
    • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience practicing discipline-specific engineering on multidiscipline project teams.
  • Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer License required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Mentor team members, act as Engineer-of-Record, and review/seal designs created by other team members. Lead and communicate with larger or technical teams through complex deliverables. Adapt to changes in the work environment. Work with guidance from supervisors as needed.
  • Must have advanced communication and leadership skills.
  • Competent in required job skills and knowledge; able to work independently with supervisor available to resolve problems.
Specialized Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Problem-solving and quick resolution abilities.
  • Ability to self-direct and manage own tasks, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Basic leadership experience leading work groups or task forces on projects.
  • Competent use of technology and software necessary for daily tasks.
  • Valid, active driver’s license with a good driving record.
Supervisory & Independence
  • This position does not have regular responsibility for supervising other team members.
  • Work is closely monitored by the supervisor with detailed instructions and procedures provided.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Office environment with typical distractions from staff, clients, and vendors.
  • Regular and occasionally frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; ability to sit, stand, and perform other listed physical activities as needed.
