Job Summary

As a Piping Material Engineer, you will lead the design, evaluation, and development of materials and methods used in large-scale industrial projects. Your work will involve analyzing materials, developing conceptual designs, selecting appropriate materials, reviewing operational data, and resolving issues related to complex materials, welding, and corrosion. Your expertise will support the success, safety, and constructability of major capital projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply and adapt standard material engineering practices, specifications, and procedures using independent technical judgment.
  • Participate in the design and improvement of processes involving the manufacture, molding, and use of metallic, plastic, composite, and other materials in construction and hardware/electronic component production.
  • Analyze materials and components to determine mechanical and physical properties.
  • Review operational data, conduct tests, and evaluate test results.
  • Prepare material selection diagrams and materials/corrosion engineering reports as required.
  • Contribute to conceptual studies, designs, proposals, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate material engineering work with internal specialists, engineering disciplines, clients, vendors, contractors, and construction teams.
  • Provide technical guidance to material specialists and collaborate with project teams, customers, and regulatory agencies to resolve complex material-related issues.
  • Support project and construction management by identifying and addressing material requirements and resolving material concerns during project execution.
  • Review and check the work of other materials engineering team (MET) members.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant field with 5–10 years of related experience,
    or
  • 9–14 years of directly relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong understanding of engineering procedures, design guides, and the application of engineering principles to plant constructability.
  • Proficiency with piping material specification software (e.g., Smart Plant Reference Data / SRD).
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME, API, AWWA, ASTM, and MSS codes and product specifications.
  • Experience developing and managing BIM piping Fab Parts with defined LOD (100–500) for plant design and piping.
  • Preferred experience with large industrial manufacturing facilities (e.g., semiconductor fabs, data centers).
  • Broad knowledge of discipline-specific precedents and related engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with standard engineering department procedures, design guides, computer applications, and administrative processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Willingness to travel and/or relocate to jobsites as required.
