Your OpportunityWe are seeking a Structural Engineer to work on a variety of projects within the Energy and Resources sector. You will have opportunities to work on studies to detail engineering projects across North America and around the world, focusing on technical growth. Specifically, you will lead work related to design of Substations and other heavy industrial infrastructure.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Understand and work according to the Stantec Safety Culture and comply with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its clients.
- Perform structural design and analysis to applicable codes for heavy industrial/energy infrastructure steel structures and concrete foundations, primarily supporting power distribution and substation design projects.
- Develop designs through sketches, hand calculations, and structural analysis software models.
- Work with Engineers and Designers on fit‑for‑purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests.
- Interface with other disciplines and project management to execute projects per the project plan.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to EITs and designers as part of their professional development while actively developing your own career.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects within Stantec’s quality control guidelines.
- Prepare and coordinate project specifications and construction documents.
- Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or clients.
- Travel to local project sites as needed.
- Registered Professional Engineer in at least one state in the Western United States and ability to obtain registration in additional states.
- Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
- Self‑starter with ability to work independently.
- Apply practical knowledge and make sound judgment to analyze issues, interpret information, and select methods and solutions to resolve design problems within standard practice guidelines.
- Requisite knowledge of structural design codes (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.) and substation design standards such as ASCE MOP 113 2nd Edition, IEEE 693, IEEE 605.
- Manage project budget and schedule.
- Experience in project team setting with creative and critical thinking.
- Enthusiastic to expand structural engineering knowledge and work in a team environment.
- Willingness to work on multiple jobs/projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Use of mathematical computational tools such as Math Cad for detailed structural calculations.
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with power transmission and distribution projects, specifically substations.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and other Stantec offices.
- Field experience is a strong asset.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer in the Western United States with 6 to 12 years of experience in structural engineering focusing on industrial infrastructure.
Typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
