Test Engineer at NOV

Job Description

As a test engineer, you will design test fixtures and rigs, set up experimental test rigs, conduct tests, document the results, and offer root causes for failures and solutions to mitigate the failure. The R&D team is a center of excellence responsible for researching and developing new technologies to reduce cost, complexity, and improve product performance. The NOV Breen facility is the flagship factory for NOV’s FMS business product brands such as Mono and Moyno progressive cavity pumps, Chemineer TM rotating mixers, Kenics TM static mixers and heat exchangers.

The test engineer role is vital for keeping the lab functional.

Key Responsibilities Laboratory Operations & Testing
  • Organize daily workload and prioritize activities within the Hydraulics and Mixing Laboratory
  • Assemble test prototype and production equipment according to specifications and procedures
  • Write job hazard analyses for risks associated with test lab capabilities
  • Interpret engineering drawings, pipe and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and technical documents to construct accurate test setups
  • Design test fixtures, rigs for mixing and pumps to support testing requirements
  • Run test experiments for PC pumps, Chemineer mixers, Kenics and Greerco static mixers
  • Record and document test procedures, results, and observations thoroughly
  • Write test reports on reduced data, analysis and findings from each experiment
  • Offer possible solutions and root causes for failed experiments/tests
  • Conduct analytical measurements such as fluid rheology, density and particle size measurements
Product Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Support product integration into manufacturing, service, and technical support functions
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance safety, efficiency, and testing effectiveness
  • Collaborate with Service Engineers for customer visits, troubleshooting, assembly, and component verification
  • Analyze and report on the performance and condition of tested products and components
Project Collaboration & Planning
  • Participate in project planning activities, including estimation of testing timelines and resource needs
  • Ensure effective communication with cross-functional teams to meet testing objectives on schedule
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in line with company EH&S policies
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure proper operation of lab systems, including cooling water systems
  • Comply with all safety, documentation, and operational protocols
  • Must be able to successfully pass a physical
Other Responsibilities
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines
  • Travel may be required on occasion
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
  • Ability to drive a forklift
Education & Experience
  • Engineering Technology degree or equivalent experience in mechanical, hydraulic, or test engineering
  • Prior experience in a test lab or hands‑on technical role, preferably involving hydraulic systems or industrial equipment
Technical Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs
  • Familiarity with mechanical assembly, test rig design, and diagnostic tools
  • Proficiency in documenting test data and analyzing performance trends
