Chemical Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Process Engineer
Description
As a Process Geochemist
, you will be a technical leader in the design, execution, and interpretation of geochemical programs that support the commissioning and operation of Fervo’s Cape Station project. You will develop and implement strategies for fluid characterization, scaling and corrosion management, chemical treatment applications for surface and subsurface processes, and ensuring long-term system reliability and performance.
You will report to the Water Science Lead and work closely with the operations team, process engineers, as well as reservoir and drilling teams to test and implement effective geochemical solutions for sustained plant and reservoir production.
Requirements Responsibilities Technical Execution- Lead implementation and optimization of chemical inhibition systems across surface facilities, working closely with plant operations team
- Lead design and execution of scale, corrosion, and chemical treatment monitoring and analysis programs across commissioning and early operations
- Conduct scaling and corrosion analyses, pipe inspections, fluid sampling, and chemical modeling to optimize chemical treatment programs
- Develop geochemical models (e.g., GWB, and OLI systems) to predict mineral equilibria, scaling potential, corrosion potential, and fluid compatibility within the surface and subsurface
- Establish standard procedures for data collection, analysis, QA/QC, and reporting to ensure consistency across projects
- Identify opportunities to optimize geochemical workflows for scalable plant development and cost saving opportunities
- Collaborate with external labs, consultants, and regulators to ensure data accuracy and compliance
- Demonstrate extreme ownership by taking responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, and operational relevance of geochemical data
- A love of field work as well as hands-on involvement in testing and implementing new process applications.
- Work with urgency and resilience, especially through commissioning and early production phases
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, field-informed insights
- Proactively seek out innovative solutions, drawing on a network of internal and external experts to address the new problems faced with engineered geothermal systems
- Contribute to a culture of technical excellence, curiosity, and accountability within the Exploration Geoscience team and across Fervo
- B.S. or M.S. in Geochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geology, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in geothermal, oil & gas, or industrial process chemistry related to chemical treatment applications to deal with scaling and corrosion
- Strong understanding of aqueous geochemistry, scaling/corrosion mechanisms, and multiphase (gas, brine, steam) systems
- Proven ability to design and interpret geochemical sampling and analysis programs
- Experience designing, building, and operating chemical testing and treatment skids on live flow streams
- Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating across technical disciplines
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites approximately 50% of the time
- Preferred:
Experience with geochemical modeling software (e.g., Scale Soft Pitzer , Phree
QC, GWB, OLI Scale Chem or equivalent) - Preferred: Experience with Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD, or equivalent
