Role Summary
Translate structural requirements into precise 2D shop drawings and submittal packages. You will bridge the gap between engineering plans and the shop floor, managing the technical lifecycle of a project, from initial takeoff and RFI coordination to final release for manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities- Fabrication Detailing:
Generate shop-ready 2D drawings for anchor bolts, templates, base plates, embeds, and grating layouts. - Plan Interpretation:
Deconstruct complex structural and concrete plans, project specifications, and architectural schedules. - BOM Management:
Build comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) with exact metallurgical specifications, including ASTM F1554 (Gr 36, 55, 105), A36, and A572, ensuring proper coating callouts like Hot Dip Galvanizing (HDG). - Technical Coordination:
Manage the RFI process, update drawings based on engineer comments, and maintain rigorous revision logs to prevent shop errors. - Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Sales, Purchasing, and Shop Foremen to align drafting output with production schedules and material availability.
- Industry
Experience:
3+ years of drafting experience specifically within steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, or heavy manufacturing. - Technical Proficiency:
Advanced command of AutoCAD 2D or equivalent software. - Detailing
Skills:
Mastery of structural print reading, including complex weld symbols (AWS), hole patterns, and edge distances. - Communication:
Ability to discuss technical tolerances and fabrication methods clearly with customers, engineers, and shop personnel. - Quality Control:
Exceptional file management and a "measure twice, cut once" mentality regarding shop drawings.
- Direct experience with anchor bolt cage details, embed plates, and grating takeoffs.
- Strong familiarity with AISC standards and steel construction practices.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for digital markups and electronic takeoffs.
- Intermediate Excel skills for managing production schedules and material logic.
- Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 base (DOE).
