Field Service Technician III is a role that provides field support to clients, including commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems. The position reports to the Director of Aftermarket Product Services and interfaces closely with the Quality Department, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineers, client personnel, and other Field Engineers and Service Technicians.
Key Job Responsibilities- Startup, preventive maintenance, and service of vertical turbine pumps and split coupled inline pumps.
- Startup, preventive maintenance, and service of cooling towers (Evapco, Kelvion, Marley, SPX).
- Startup, preventive maintenance, and service of centrifugal chillers (Trane, York, McQuay, Smardt).
- Startup and troubleshooting variable frequency drives (Eaton and Allen‑Bradley).
- Install and repair power distribution systems including electric motors, motor control centers, and variable speed drives.
- Close interface with other Field Service Technicians, Project Engineers, Project Managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and client personnel.
- Assist the Production Department in assembly or training of factory personnel.
- Compile O&M information and transmit critical O&M information during a project.
- Assist in compilation of the final sets of IOM manuals.
- Provide feedback from the field and create legible “red‑line” drawings for submission to the Project Manager.
- Arrange for a timely hand‑off from construction functions and direct the field commissioning of a project.
- Responsible for troubleshooting all mechanical and electrical equipment and provide documented commissioning of the mechanical and electrical portions of the project.
- Assist in Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions and potentially perform or oversee QC checks.
- Other responsibilities as designated by TAS.
- Ability to read drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Office Projects.
- Ability to travel extensively domestically and internationally.
- Exposure to at least one brand of PLC or building controls.
- Capacity to work independently at the job site.
- HVAC trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred.
- Military training and/or technical work experience may be considered in lieu of trade school certification.
- Significant project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience with variable frequency drive startup and troubleshooting (Eaton and Allen‑Bradley).
- Experience with verification of compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices.
- Experience with centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and VFD.
- Availability to travel extensively to domestic and international job sites.
- Ability to work in field construction conditions.
- Must hold or be able to obtain applicable safety certifications, including but not limited to OSHA 10 General Construction and NFPA‑70E.
- Safe driving record.
Position requires 80% travel, both domestic and international. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Frequent use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception, and field of vision necessary for data analysis and computer operation. Work performed under various environmental conditions.
