Environmental Scientist – Field Technician
Phase Engineering is seeking a full‑time, entry‑ to mid‑level Staff Environmental Scientist or Field Technician for a hybrid role based in Houston, Texas. This position primarily involves conducting site inspections for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and supporting other environmental due diligence projects. The work is largely field‑based throughout Houston and surrounding areas, with some remote and office time. Projects are mainly within Texas but may require occasional out‑of‑state travel, possibly via driving or air.
Overnight stays may be necessary. All travel and associated expenses are covered by Phase Engineering. In addition to site inspections, the selected candidate will assist the preparation of figures, exhibits, and documentation, interpret technical information, and support the development of environmental reports under senior staff guidance. The candidate must be comfortable engaging professionally with diverse communication styles and personalities, demonstrate a positive attitude, be team‑oriented, maintain a strong work ethic, and be eager to learn and take on new responsibilities in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a science‑related field (Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, Chemistry, or similar) preferred but not required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of personalities
- Ability to manage personal schedules and meet strict project deadlines
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Self‑motivated, resourceful, and capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously under guidance from senior staff
- Basic project management skills
- Ability to present a professional appearance and demeanor on behalf of the firm
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including rugged terrain, remote locations, and hot or cold weather
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Earth, and Adobe Acrobat
- Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license and ability to meet company auto insurability requirements
- Experience with GIS or mapping software is a plus
- Familiarity with environmental regulations is a plus
