Junior Engineer – Orion Engineering

Orion Engineering has an immediate opening for Junior Structural Engineers in our Houston, TX office. The role involves providing structural design engineering support for marine and heavy civil structures such as port facilities, wharves, liquid cargo terminals, container terminals, cruise terminals, bulkheads, docks, piers, and marinas.

The selected candidate will work closely with engineering and project management teams to ensure project requirements are met and designs are completed accurately and on schedule.

• Work with the Engineering & Structural Design team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
• Collect data and gather information or documents.
• Perform standard computations and analysis.
• Prepare drawings and visual aids.
• Observe construction activities to determine best design applications.
• Perform basic survey work as required.
• Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established engineering criteria to perform assigned tasks.
• Assist in the inspection of existing waterfront structures and designing of repairs and/or upgrades.
• Ensure personal and workplace safety, including safe removal of unsafe conditions.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.
• Report any and all violations of laws, regulations or policies promptly.
• Perform other related administrative and technical duties as assigned (e.g., certification training, safety training, procedure review).
• Maintain confidentiality regarding proprietary company information.

• BS Degree in Civil Engineering with a structural or geotechnical track.
• 0–4 years of work experience.
• Fundamentals of Engineering exam completed and hold E.I. certification or E.I.T.
• Working knowledge of basic structural analysis using concrete and/or steel elements.
• Ability to quickly learn technical aspects of the business and communicate effectively across all levels.
• Must be well organized, diligent, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Must be flexible and able to adjust to changing work priorities.
• Must possess high degree of personal integrity and discretion to keep all company information strictly confidential.
• Travel including international travel is required.

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit a jobsite (hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other equipment as required). The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately, as directed by safety representatives or other management personnel.
