Location: NASA JSC – Sonny Carter Training Facility

Contract: NBL Operations Contract (NOC II)

Overview

Rothe Enterprises, Inc. seeks a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to support operations at NASA’s Sonny Carter Training Facility under the NOC II contract. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, advanced problem‑solving abilities, and strong communication skills to a dynamic engineering environment. Proficiency in PTC CREO and a solid understanding of machine shop equipment are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and contribute to the facility’s culture of safety.
  • Interpret and execute design requirements with precision.
  • Research and select appropriate materials to meet design criteria.
  • Reverse engineer or troubleshoot legacy hardware.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Estimate hours and timelines for assigned tasks.
  • Adhere to design templates, safety factors, and engineering policies.
  • Organize and maintain CAD part and assembly files.
  • Support design, drafting, and analysis tasks.
  • Create designs optimized for manufacturability and machining.
  • Participate in Peer, Design, and Safety Reviews.
  • Conduct analyses for stress, material selection, center of gravity, hazard assessment, and buoyancy.
  • Meet mission‑critical deadlines with flexibility and urgency.
  • Perform peer reviews and redline engineering drawings.
  • Identify and source materials within budget constraints.
  • Integrate 3D printed components into assemblies when applicable.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Take direction from senior engineers and collaborate with machinists and shop supervisors.
  • Communicate proactively with project teams and provide regular status updates.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in CREO 10.
  • Manual or CNC machining/programming experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with GD&T is a plus.
  • SCUBA certification or willingness to obtain one is a plus (not required).
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 20 lbs.
