Position OverviewAs a Lead and Senior Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in HVAC design at Henderson Engineers, you will contribute your expertise to our six market sectors, including Business, Community, Grocery & Distribution, Health, Retail, and Venue. Mechanical engineers also play a key role in supporting the firm’s growing refrigeration design needs, providing innovative solutions across multiple sectors. Your work will integrate engineering knowledge with the in‑the‑field experience of Henderson Building Solutions to deliver an unparalleled client experience.
Key Responsibilities- Proactively advise and mentor less experienced designers and engineers across teams or practices, providing oversight and technical guidance.
- Takes responsibility for the success of those under their direct supervision.
- Design advanced building systems, prepare design documents, and perform engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines. Lead designers may also provide leadership to design staff, including supervising or managing others, and be involved in business development, corporate operations, and risk management.
- Lead project and design efforts from concept design through completion.
- Produce solutions to complex engineering problems and complicated design challenges through direct involvement or in an advisory capacity.
- Ensure the production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
- Involved in the development of tools, resources, and company practices.
- Implement and reinforce design and engineering standards at the team or practice level.
- Oversee the quality of projects and designs through the quality review process and regular check‑ins. May include providing final reviews for projects under purview.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of engineering preferred (e.g., mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 11 years of relevant experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree required. Professional Engineering (PE) license may be counted toward 1 year of direct experience.
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards relating to a broad range of practices, projects and/or program types.
- Knowledge of earned value, contracts and construction processes and methods.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and HVAC design software (e.g., IESVE, Trane Trace).
